Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG).
In 2019, the UK parliament passed legislation requiring the government to reduce the UK’s net emissions of greenhouse gases to Net Zero by 2050.
Net Zero recognises that there will be some emissions but that these need to be fully offset, predominantly through natural carbon sinks such as oceans, forests and peatlands. The journey to Net Zero is the “Energy Transition”.
Helix Capital invests in UK infrastructure to support the journey to Net Zero – through the ongoing sustainable electrification of the economy and the replacement of hydrocarbons in agriculture, transport and heavy machinery.
Net Zero is legally enshrined in UK law; Helix Capital builds the infrastructure to help us get there.
Helix capital: investing in energy transition infrastructure:
Lower-carbon electricity generation.
Decarbonisation of agriculture, heavy plant and road transport.
What the underlying assets do:
-
Enable
The roll-out of more renewables
-
Support
Infrastructure for stable electricity supply; generating Green Hydrogen for long duration fuel and storage
-
Provide
Support for the regeneration of UK peatbogs and afforestation projects that would otherwise not go ahead
-
Reduce Carbon Emissions
What the investments will deliver:
-
Diversity of revenue streams:
Tactically generate carbon-neutral electricity when prices are high; strategically generate Green Hydrogen for the future of transport.
-
Optionality
To choose to derive revenue from merchant power sales or from regulated grid support payments, or both.
-
Flexibility
Of when to generate to capture peak pricing
-
Non-correlated returns
